There's an old story about a man who owned a goose that laid one golden egg every morning — until he grew impatient, killed it to get the eggs inside, and found nothing. That's short-term thinking: the man who cheats to win today and burns his name forever; who takes the shortcut and slays the very thing meant to provide for him. A good man thinks in decades, not minutes, because the bill always comes due.
Long-term thinking is just a quieter name for self-control — denying what you want this minute so the man you'll be in twenty years can have what he needs. Training your body, standing on your own, doing honest work: they are all the same choice, made daily — the future over the now. This is the quality the others all serve.
