Lead by Example

Your son is watching you tie your shoes. That's how it starts — not the lectures, the watching. You can tell a boy a thousand times to be honest, to work hard, to keep his word, and he won't remember a single speech. But he is recording everything you do: how you treat his mother when you're tired, whether you keep the promise nobody would've blamed you for breaking, whether you get up when it's cold and dark and no one is making you.

A man doesn't raise a child with his words — he raises him with his example, the one lesson he can't fake. And if no one ever showed you, if you never had an example to follow, then you get to be the first. You become the example you never had. So lead — not with your mouth, with your life. Because someone small is always watching, and soon he will do exactly what he saw you do.
